Three New Regents Appointed by Governor Brownback
(Topeka, Kansas) - Today the Senate Oversight Committee approved Joseph Bain of Goodland, Bill Feuerborn of Garnett, and Zoe F. Newton of Sedan to a four year term on the Kansas Board of Regents.
These individuals fill the positions that will be vacated by Mildred Edwards of Wichita, Tim 
Emert of Independence, and Edwin “Ed” McKechnie of Arcadia.
“Our state’s colleges and universities help educate and prepare students to enter the work force, and the Regents play an important role in overseeing this process,” said Governor Brownback at their August 1 announcement. “Joseph, Bill, and Zoe all bring considerable talent and experience to the board, and I am pleased that they’ve agreed to serve the people of Kansas in this capacity.”
From Joseph Bain:
"I believe the Kansas Regents institutions are second to none, and I'm excited to offer my perspective as a product of the Regents system,” said Bain. “I am someone that is still quite close to many of the critical higher education issues students face today, and I think it will be valuable to bring that understanding to the Board of Regents."
From Bill Feuerborn:
“Higher education is critically important for the students of our state, as well as for the state of Kansas,” said Feuerborn. “ I am happy and humbled to be appointed, and look forward to serving in this important position.”
From Zoe F. Newton:
“I am committed to ensuring Kansas schools continue to provide a world class education at an affordable cost,” said Newton. “Our schools must be accessible to all who desire a postsecondary education, whether they are high school graduates or returning adult students.”

The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges). In addition, the Board administers the state’s student financial aid, adult education, high school equivalency, and career and technical education programs.
