The Police Science Alignment was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on December 15, 2011. Colleges are granted one year from the approval date to implement the alignment. Police Science implementation due by Fall 2027.

State Business and Industry Committee recommendation

The program title was updated to Police Science to better reflect the occupational focus of the training provided and to separate the technical program from the Criminal Justice Associate of Arts transfer degree. The committee requested that colleges focus their curriculum on general education courses tailored to law enforcement. Specifically, they highlighted the need for: oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills (emotional intelligence, cultural competency), problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, leadership skills, ethics, constitutional and case law, observational skills, conflict de-escalation skills (mental health awareness, crisis intervention), and computer/technology skills.
