ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR FINANCE

The Kansas Board of Regents invites applicants to fill the position of Associate Director for Finance. The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges).

The Associate Director for Finance oversees agency accounting operations, financial systems, and regulatory reporting while ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements. This position reviews and approves major financial transactions; manages financial databases and systems such as SMART, UMB, KHEDS, and SAM.gov; and leads federal and special grant administration, including creation, management, monitoring, and reporting. Additional responsibilities include coordinating required federal and state financial reports; supporting procurement card administration; overseeing cost allocation processes; providing policy and procedural guidance; and serving as a key resource for internal and external financial inquiries.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of financial operations, regulatory compliance, audit coordination, and complex financial systems. Required qualifications include familiarity with federal and state regulations governing the use of federal funds; proficiency with complex financial systems and financial reporting; and excellent analytical, communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field; progressively responsible experience in financial administration within higher education or a state agency; and extensive expertise in grant creation, management, compliance, and reporting. Leadership ability, sound judgment, and a commitment to process improvement and operational efficiency are essential.

Salary range is $75,000 to $84,450 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is authorized to work a hybrid schedule, with in-person attendance in the Topeka office required a few times per month.
